Who is the programme for?

This is a cost-effective and quality-focused alternative to e-learning. This 4-hour webinar is suitable for anyone working in the social care sector including care homes, residential homes, supported living services, domiciliary services and other community-based services.

The latest guidance regarding the forthcoming Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) will be shared, enabling candidates to understand how the requirements will change once the LPS are introduced.

The training will introduce the learner to the legislative framework and link this to working practice. Candidates will leave this session with a clear understanding of current good practice and improved confidence and competence in relation to the legal framework and compliance with the code of practice. Learners will have confidence in supporting and upholding decisions made by people with care and support needs, ensuring they feel respected and supported. Where best interest decisions need to be made, candidates will understand the processes that need to be followed to ensure these decisions are made in the best interests of the person, using the less restrictive method

Training Learning Outcomes

• Understand the 5 principles of the act
• Define the term ‘mental capacity’
• Recognise who is affected by the provisions of the act
• Identify when it is appropriate to undertake assessment of capacity
• Understand key roles in the assessment process
• State the purpose, and limits of the DoL Safeguards
• Describe how relevant agencies play a role in the DoL Safeguards
• Define the role of the supervisory body, managing authority and inspectorate
• Sate the threshold of DoLS applications
• State how key issues of risk, consent and capacity influence working practices and reporting procedures

Delivery Method

This interactive session will offer a fully immersive learning experience that is enhanced by small group learning. The maximum number of candidates per session is 16, giving opportunity for all learners to engage directly with the trainer, take part in interactive activities and share learning with others in focused discussions. Activities will include interactive whiteboards, polls, case studies, and chat activities.
